Check out this fine post by Charlie Sykes!
If you go to the actual poll results, they are truly shocking! I love Americans!
A sampling of the results:
“If a nominee for any federal judgeship is well-qualified, he or she deserves an up or down vote on the floor of the Senate.” 82% agree / 10% disagree
“Senators have a constitutional duty to give an up or down vote to a nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court.” 78% agree / 12% disagree
“President Bush should keep his promise made during the campaign to nominate a U.S. Supreme Court justice who will apply existing law, not make new law. ” 75% agree / 18% disagree.
We should take the words “under God” out of the Pledge of Allegiance 11% agree, 85% disagree
We should allow a minor to get an abortion without her parent’s consent 17% agree / 77% disagree
We should allow the burning the American flag because it’s a form of free speech 19% agree / 77% disagree
We should Legalize gay marriage 31% agree / 61% disagree
“Decisions about political issues like gay marriage should be made by elected representatives, not by unelected judges.” 65% agree / 25% disagree
Senators who are opposing judicial nominees are “just playing partisan politics,” OR Senators are “doing so out of a sincere concern about their qualifications.” 70% agree with partisan politics, 18% agree with sincere concern.
AMAZING RESULTS! I hope the Republicans choose to push this issue, because clearly the American people are on our side, and the side of originalist judges, when it comes to the bread-and-butter cultural issues.
