Cong. Wasserman-Schultz Also A Rubber-Stamp: For Nancy Pelosi, John Murtha, and Planned Parenthood

Wisconsin news outlets have reported on a conference call by Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz of Florida arranged by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee attacking GOP Assembly Speaker John Gard in advance of President Bush’s fundraiser for Gard.  Rep. Debbie Wasserman- Schutltz is only in her first term in Congress. During that time, though, she has established herself as one of the most consistently liberal members of the House. Take a look at some bills sponsored or co-sponsored by Ms. Wasserman-Schultz:

H.CON.RES.410 : Expressing the sense of Congress regarding the enactment of legislation that provides access to comprehensive health care for all Americans. Sponsor: Rep Schakowsky, Janice D. [IL-9]

H.J.RES.37 : Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relative to equal rights for men and women. Sponsor: Rep Maloney, Carolyn B. [NY-14]

H.R.5151 : To protect, consistent with Roe v. Wade, a woman’s freedom to choose to bear a child or terminate a pregnancy… Sponsor: Rep Nadler, Jerrold [NY-8]

H.J.RES.73 : To redeploy U. S. Forces from Iraq. Sponsor: Rep Murtha, John P. [PA-12]

And look at some fo the people and organizations who endorsed Wasserman-Schultz in her 2004 race: Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Hery Waxman, Rep. Robert Wexler, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), NARAL Pro-Choice America, National Education Association, Women’s Action for New Directions, EMILY’s List, Human Rights Campaign (leading homosexual rights lobby), National Women’s Political Caucus, Planned Parenthood, National Organization of Women, Progressive Majority.

Americans for Democratic Action gave her a 100% rating for the 2005 session. She also received a 100% ranking from NARAL Pro-Choice America, National Organization for Women, and Population Connection, formerly Zero Population Growth. The non-partisan National Journal rated her amongst the most liberal quintile of the House, particularly on economic and social policy questions. Her number two PAC giver is the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Sound like organizations that represent the values and priorities of the good people of Northeastern Wisconsin? I don’t think so.

She’s also a personal favorite of House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi: “‘America is at a critical moment with major challenges at home and abroad that demand strong leadership from Democrats in Congress,’ Wasserman Schultz said. ‘Nancy Pelosi has demonstrated strong and visionary leadership. I am honored to be Leader Pelosi’s choice as the freshman representative on the Steering and Policy Committee.’”

She’s also a personal favorite of the House Democratic Whip: “The Democratic Whip, Congressman Steny Hoyer from Maryland, selected her to serve in the position of Senior Whip. In this position she will serve as one of a group of Senior Members and Caucus opinion leaders that meet weekly to discuss long-range policy goals and key issues facing Congress. Wasserman Schultz was the only freshman chosen to serve on the Whip team.”

She’s also a personal favorite of former Clinton aide, DCCC Chairman Rahm Emmanuel: “Congressman Rahm Emanuel also announced that Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) will serve as co-chairs of the Red to Blue Program at the DCCC. … Congressman Rahm Emanuel is thankful that Reps. Van Hollen and Wasserman Schultz have taken on this challenge and agreed to continue their efforts to bring more Democrats to the House of Representatives.”

The focal point of her conference call was to name John Gard the GOP Rubber Stamp of the Week and label him a “Bush clone.” The DCCC based this on reports in the Madison Capital Times, the state’s most well-known liberal rag, and the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. They point to two things in particular: his votes against raising the minimum wage and that he raises money outside his district. Well, newsflash: politicians raise money outside their district: just ask Russ Feingold or Jim Doyle how their recent fundraising jaunts to Chicago, or Hollywood went. And if we only look at one issue for votes, then Wasserman Schultz is a rubber-stamp for President Bush because she and he are both strong friends of Israel.

Moreover, all of this rubber-stamp rhetoric is coming from a woman who, according to the Washington Post, has followed Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic leadership 100% of the time on key votes! And the Democratic leadership has rewarded her 100% loyalty with top top jobs like R2B c0-chair, Senior Whip, and Policy/Steering Committee member!

Electing a Democrat to the 8th District Seat would put 100% Leftist Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz in charge of the U.S. House. Unlimited abortion license. Cut and run from Iraq. Significant Gun Control. Socialized Health Care. Gay Marriage. Personal Injury Lawyer Heaven. Massive Tax Hikes. When you vote for Nusbaum or Kagen, I hope you know all of what you’re asking for.

    How dare her.

When “comprehensive” becomes a liberal codeword for government-controlled, it is a little less than admirable.

[...] I simply point out that the Democrats’ slam on Republicans is purely politically contrived. There is NO actual belief among Democrats that it is good/better for America/healthy for democracy for members to vary from their respective party’s line. It’s all just a sales pitch to fit the season. As TIME’s report makes clear, it’s also sheer hypocrisy. [...]
