Hillary Clinton’s early release of her presidential platform, the American Dream Initiative, was a lack luster exercise in fence riding that even drew international attention.

The DLC has anointed it “aspirational,” and you know what they say: politics is 90% perspiration, 10% aspiration. Or should that be inspiration? Well, no matter. The centrists are far too concerned with offending anyone to risk inspiring anyone.

I prefer a satirical but rather truthful perspective on the plan.

“When they [our forefathers] journeyed across the mountains and rivers,” she said, “they faced hardship, disease , back-breaking labor and death in hopes that some day they could become middle class, and turn over the reins of their destiny to a large, centralized federal government. The Democrat party represents the best hope for fulfilling that American dream.”

But in all seriousness, I found this quote (HT:Jeremy Wick) rather poignant in regards to the initiative.

“Government is the great fiction through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else.” – Frederic Bastiat

Also, in regards to the Democrat’s position on the war in Iraq, that is increasingly being expressed by violence against our leaders and even the families’ of our brave soldiers, John Stuart Mill has a few words.

“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing is worth a war, is worse.”

There’s still “centrists” in the Democratic Party?
