Just because the constitution doesn't guarantee a "right to privacy" doesn't mean it's damaging to the constitution to support privacy rights in general. If sobriety checkpoints are unconstitutional (I haven't researched it, but I think they've been upheld) it would be because they violate the 4th amendment prohibition against unreasonable searches, not because of the privacy penumbras.
