Thanks to all of you who listened this morning to my appearance on Wisconsin Public Radio. It was a very new and really fun experience for me, and I’m quite glad I did it. Thanks to the host Joy and my copanelist John for a great conversation. Just a few follow-up notes:
1. In case you missed it, you can download the show from WPR’s website here.
2. The poll for WPRI that host Joy Cardin referenced.
3. Essays I referenced on air: Dr. John McAdams for WPRI, Chuck Colson of Prison Fellowship, and C.S. Lewis’ essay The Humanitarian Theory of Punishment. Prepping for the show I also found helpful essays by Antonin Scalia and Avery Cardinal Dulles.
4. A friend in the Law School corrected me on one statement – the Grand Jury clause is in the 5th Amendment, not the 8th. Oops.
P.S. Tommy Thompson crops up in Iowa: From the Hotline:
Ex-HHS Sec/WI Gov. Tommy Thompson (R) gave a “fiery 17-minute speech” to about 40 party activists in Waterloo about why GOPers need to maintain majority in Congress. Thompson: “I always start out the day saying ‘Isn’t it great to be a Republican? I’m tired of those liberal pessimists, you know who getup in the morning and eat grapefruit and then suck lemons all day.” Though Thompson announced he would not run against WI Gov. James Doyle (D) or Sen. Herb Kohl (D), but “he has been mentioned” among ’08 GOPers. Thompson: “We’re considering a run” (Nelson, Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier, 10/2).
From the Muscatine Journal, Thompson at another Iowa stop:
“I used to be able to do only five pushups. Now I do 60 pushups and 100 crunches in the morning and 60 pushups and 100 crunches at night.â€
P.P.S. Random thoughts: In the 8th CD, RPW does a nice job of doing bloggers’ work for us. Thanks. In the 7th CD, Nick Reid is up on T.V. For heading as uphill as he is, this man deserves major kudoes for running such a good race thus far.
