Last night I and a few other Marquette College Republicans had the opportunity to attend a FreedomWorks event with former House Majority Leader Dick Armey and Congressman Paul Ryan.
Leader Armey is quite the fellow. Let’s just say he’s very proud to be from Texas. He’s a very impressive person: Grover Norquist meets Lyndon Johnson – master grassroots tactician meets master legislative strategist. Moreover, he’s got the personality to match the policy brains… he was funny, frank, and forward-thinking.
Of course, everyone in the room was a Paul Ryan fan. One of the things that I most appreciate about Paul Ryan is he can define down to a sentence why he’s in politics (I wish every politician could do that). For Cong. Ryan, it’s the great battle of ideas between individualism and collectivism, and making sure individualism wins.
Get on board with FreedomWorks. They are a great group – Brandon has traveled to D.C. for them before to lobby Gwen Moore to reform Social Security. Their Wisconsin director Cameron is a ubiquitous presence throughout our fair state. If you are an economic conservative, you need to belong to FreedomWorks.

Here are Mr.Forbes remarks: “I am very pleased to join the board of FreedomWorks, an organization that for more than two decades has fought for conservative initiatives like entitlement reform, the flat tax, and serious efforts to control runaway federal spending. I expect great things from this organization as it reenergizes the American conservative movement and helps to define the 2008 presidential campaign under the excellent leadership of Dick Armey.” [...]
