ESPN has been running a series of commercials involving guys and their college rivals with the slogan “Never Graduate.” (The Hook Em Horns charades/ Pictionary game with a Texas A&M Fan or the Duke fan who makes a Tar Heels mascot piñata for his kids). Well, a Georgia congressman is living up to this philosophy, though he may stand alone.

The day after Florida’s 41-14 win over Ohio State in the BCS Championship Game, Congress passed House Resolution No. 39, commending the Gators for winning the national championship. But there was one Congressman who couldn’t support the resolution, which passed 414-1.

The alone Congressman: Jack Kingston (R-GA). of District 1. Kingston, a University of Georgia graduate is still a Bulldog at heart.

“I cheered for Florida. I wanted Florida to win. I am an SEC guy,” said Kingston, who was raised in Athens, Ga. “But there’s only so far a Bulldog can go.”
Kingston said opposing the resolution, which was sponsored by Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida and 10 other Florida representatives, was “in the spirit of affectionate rivalry.”
“I had some damage control with my Florida friends,” said Kingston, who lives in Savannah, Ga. “There might have been more wrath from my Bulldog friends if I had voted (for Florida).”

Here is the full text of the Congressional Resolution: (Also good for a laugh, since this is what congress does)

One Response to “Georgia Congressman never graduates”

  1. Annie says:

props to Kingston for representing his district so well! too bad the other 12 didn’t oppose the resolution along with him; that would have really been some “affectionate rivalry!”
