These are just a collection of thoughts as I watch our President convey the state of the Union.
8:18 pm – The liberal lion looks like he might have had one too many last night.
8:22 pm – “the right to choose some place better” Great to see some school choice from GW.
8:24 pm – Two new programs for health insurance – private is best but let’s give a tax deduction of 15,000 to level the field and put insurance within reach. Expand health savings accounts, better technology, medical liability reform (where has Dr.Kagen been on this), and on down the list… It would be great to see this but I these are tough, nongovernment choices the Dems don’t want to hear about.
8:27 pm – Illegal immigrant – double the border patrols, enforce immigration at the work sites and give ID tools to employers so they have no rights. I agree with resolving the immigrants in this country without amnesty but , again, I don’t see the Dems touching this with their weak, unstable majority. It’s to hot of an issue.
8:30 pm – Energy Independence u-ra ra. We have heard all of these options but it’s encouraging to hear nuclear power as one of the options. We often ignore this option although it is the most efficient and effective. What are we afraid of, heck the French even have far more then we have.
8:33 pm – We have yet to even get close to depleteing our strategic oil reserve, how is doubling it a good idea? I guess I see this in business terms, if we build our inventory up too much we our just over-padding ourselves and encouraging inefficiencies.
8:34 pm – To win the War on Terror we must continue to take the fight to the enemy… AMEN. We live in hard times and I still stand by the President on this, we cannot back down without asking them to come back and attack us on our soil.
8:36 pm – We must appreciate those who continue to dedicate their lives to fighting the terrorists.. (Yeah CTU (24) says my roommate). In all seriousness, we have an amazing, dedicated, patriotic fight force protecting us all over the world, I cannot thank them enough.
8:39 pm – “We will sacrifice our blood and bodies to destroy your dreams and what is coming is even worse” – Al Qaeda Powerful and crystal clear they will stop at nothing to kill us, retreating will only allow them to dedicated themselves to blowing up our families here in the US.
8:40 pm – “Free people are not drawn to violence and malignant idiologies.”… for the sake of our own security, I agree that we must foster freedom to gain peace.
8:43 pm – The Iraqi elections were something I will never forget, it was great to have some of those who voted at Bush’s last State of The Union.
8:45 pm – 20,000 additional troops will act as reinforcements, no standing ovation but considerable partisian applause.
8:46 pm – Have you noticed the lack of boos and gross partisianship that raised it’s head at the last State of the Union? Has the majority and the promise of pork quieted and refined the Democrats that almost made a spectacle out of the last State of the Union? My roomates perspective : They don’t want to look cocky. Pelosi looks comfortable.
8:50 pm – Whatever you voted for, you did not vote for failure! Powerful line with full standing ovation from everyone (probably because it was quickly followed by a message of troop support.) I do think that pulling out right now is fastest
He is asking congress to increase the size of the standing Army and Marine core by 90,000. Also, he is discussing a civilian reserve core. It sounds promising. I look forward to more information on this, I am always willing to assist in the way I can serve best. This may be another answer to the age old liberal attack “If you’re a conservative, why don’t you join the army?”
8:57 pm – I really enjoy the Great American Success stories: Mutumbo, Enger-Clark and the NYC Subway Hero Wesley Autry. Roommate comment: “What if one of them opened their coat and advertised a company? It would be almost as crass as Pelosi’s smug smirk.”
9:02 – “The state of our union is strong, the cause of our nation is right and tonight that cause goes on.”

I sure love the State of the Union Address, it always makes me feel so optimistic!
and then the Democratic Response……. yup, back to normal…
Regarding the energy independence comments and public fear of nuclear plants: in all energy matters, and especially nuclear power, the public has little understanding of how electricity is really made and what the pros and cons of each source are. We know about war because we have plenty of veterans and some good movies, but as a nuclear plant worker I can tell you just about everything you see and read on the topic (by boosters and detractors alike) has little to do with the day-to-day goings on at an atomic plant. To get some entertaining background on this, see my blog for “Rad Decision,” a thriller novel and a nuclear plant tour in one. It’s provided online at no cost. Comments at the website homepage are quite favorable. There’s also a paperback version. Thanks. http://RadDecision.blogspot.com.
“I agree that we must foster freedom to gain peace.”
I believe we should foster peace to gain freedom. The more that our society (global included) is stable, the more liberty we have. eh?
85% of Fox News viewers think it was an “Excellent” Speech.
Finally the media finds the real pulse of America.
If you care about the environment, you care about nuclear energy.
Fostering peace has largely been historically unsuccessful for gaining freedom.
