Profiles in Catholic Collegiate Courage

Today I’m unveiling a new theme here on GOP3.com; I anticipate there will be several of these over the course of the next few weeks.
I’m going to provide examples of presidents of Catholic colleges and universities that stood up to the forces of liberal feminism, political correctness, and AAUP-activated faculty to say Yes to Catholic Values and No to the Vagina Monologues.
Our first example is the Rev. David Tyson, CSC, of the University of Portland:
Last 5 posts by DanielI have just read the ‘Vagina Monologues’ carefully and thoroughly.
In conscience, I cannot approve of its performance on the campus.
The play is offensive, questionable in its portrayal of violence, and not in keeping with the respect accorded the human body in this institution’s religious tradition.
I feel badly for those who have worked on the play, and appreciate and respect their opinion.
However, it is my judgment that the University of Portland is not a proper venue for the ‘Vagina Monologues.’

Man. You need to see someone about your vagina monologues obsession. Were you a C-Section baby or something?

A wise man once said that an issue only dies when everyone stops talking about it. From now until April there will be several opportunities to get the Administration and other interested parties on record about this issue. I will do my best to provide cover for Fr. Wild or Archbishop Dolan should one of them decide to take a stand by highlighting all the others who have already done so, and the reasons they gave.

Jim,
Wow, you know a lot of those. It’s scary to think how many prepubesents you chatted up online to learn them. Is that why your’e here? Nobody in the 9- 13 online crowd wants to play with Jimmy anymore?

uh-oh, spelling typo, must make you feel right at home.

Daniel,
I hate to break it to you, but you guys aren’t going to win this one. The Vagina Monologues are going to happen and they’re going to be heavily attended, despite what you guys hope to accomplish. And besides, when was the last time MU gave a crap what Archbishop Dolan had to say?
I return to a sentiment I’ve always felt — if MU is too liberal of an institution for you, you should have done your homework a little better before choosing a school. I’m sure Liberty or BYU or one of those other “we’d rather you didn’t come here if you’re not rich, straight, and white” schools would be happy to have you. Why should MU change when you’re the one who’s fighting the Jesuit principles of cura personalis?

Wow Jess, you complain about being stereotyped yet you love to stereotype conservatives. Seems a little hypocritical.

MU Socialist,
You are absolutely right about the monologues being performed.
It’s been approved and it’s going to happen. I will not be surprised whatever the attendance level is. If the powers that be want a cheap thrill under the guise of education then let them. In the question about its appropriateness or more importantly its value (lack of) I have thrown in my two cents but I personally don’t think the subject is worth any more effort than that. But to the point; I don’t think anyone is fighting anything here, we are just sharing opinions. Dan, like the rest of us, is offering his insight and views not planning a coup.

It sure isn’t worth the effort of a “profiles in courage” series… Get a grip.

“you should have done your homework a little better before choosing a school”
Something I think about probably every day.

Jim is as glib as ever.

“Were you a C-Section baby or something?”
either that or daniel took being born again a little too literally, found a [liberal inappropriateness deleted], and has been vaginaphobic ever since
