This is a great idea, Governor Doyle. Let’s try to drive down the high cost of health care in this state by putting a tax on hospitals.

Does he honestly think Aurora and friends are going to just pay the tax out of its profits? No - the Auroras will go to the health insurance companies and say they need increased rates to pay the tax. The insurance companies will have to give Aurora the increase, but then they will increase premiums. Higher premiums will, in turn, lead to fewer people having insurance coverage. It’s the way the market works, Governor.

Good to see Dismal Diamond Doyle is back in action hurting Wisconsinites with more regulations and taxes. Of all the things to raise taxes on…

Donna Sollenberger, chief executive officer of UW Hospital and Clinics, said, “Ultimately, what you’re saying is you’re going to tax sick people.”

Sollenberger is right on, and there’s a fair amount of irony here. The Democrats always oppose Republican-sponsored health savings accounts bills saying that they are a tax break for the healthy and wealthy, while Democrats are out there fighting for the sick and poor.
Apparently that doesn’t extend to not taxing the sick via a hospital tax!

and where is the media coverage? No one will know about this…
