Hey folks.
Coming to you live from Washington DC and CPAC – the conservative political action conference. Having a great time; seeing lots of old friends and making new ones.
2008 politics dominates the conference. Everyone is wearing a sticker for someone (except me, as I am observing a strict no-sticker policy).
Last night I saw Ron Paul and Tom Tancredo at a small reception. Paul didn’t even bring staff or stickers, and he had almost no supporters. Tancredo has a dedicated core of fifty roaming the premises; immigration lines always draw the loudest applause in any presenter’s speech.
Today started out with Mike Huckabee of Arkansas. He gave an impressive presentation, including a straight-out defense of his fiscal conservative credentials (contra the Club for Growth report). I like Huckabee… he shares much of my worldview. But it wasn’t like there were tons of folks with Huckabee posters around.
There are lots of Brownback stickers around. I missed Sam Brownback’s speech standing in line (they seriously need a bigger venue next year), but got to shake his hand as he was coming out. He is such a nice man; stopped to talk for a few seconds upon seeing the huge smile on my face as he worked his way down. He may be too good to be president.
Romney’s speech was very good – he defined the three types of conservative: economic, social, and national security, and spoke straight to each one. For all the press about Romney trying to steal the conference and the straw poll, I was disappointed with the number of folks on the floor of the conference. He should have had a lot more based on appearances in all other parts of the convention. frankly, folks here just don’t trust them (not that I cinclude myself in that clump).
Okay, folks are all excited for Coulter (I personally am not a fan on the same level), and then F. James Sensenbrenner Jr. is talking. I’m gonna go hear Cong. Jim, find some food, and then off to MaineFest. More tomorrow hopefully.

How about posting something about the other instances of his shutting up student expression? Given the culture in OSD, I would expect several.
Thanks for the update… I love your comment on Brownback. To me that makes the difference, that extra personal attention. Now… have you heard anything at all about Newt?
Glad to see that you’re not personally a fan of Coulter, but isn’t it a bit disconcerting to attend an event where a large number of persons cheer her for calling Edwards a faggot?
Oh you mean like Maher and his viewers wishing that Cheney had been assassinated? They are both going for shock value, that’s all. No one really condones it.
There were some people in the metro I talked to on Friday night who attended the Ann Coulter speech and said that she never called him that. I wasn’t there, but I figure I’d rather believe people who actually atteneded the speech. I am not a big Coulter fan myself.
1.) She said it, don’t kid yourself – http://www.crooksandliars.com/.....t’/
2.) If “no one” really condones it, why do they applaud?
