Searching for something completely different on the Marquette Tribune’s website this evening, I came across quite a questionable article. While the post has been taken down, a PDF of the screen shot (please note: rated R for strong language) can be downloaded here: Tribune “Articleâ€
Is this an inside joke? Is it a shot at Seramur? Or both? Interestingly, the article in question is attributed to the same writer who wrote a critical piece about Seramur’s behavior in MUSG meetings earlier this year.

We got a call Monday night informing us of the article. It has been taken down. We have addressed it in an Editor’s Note that will run in today’s paper and can be seen now on our Web site.

The recommendation became a heated debate when College of Business Administration senator and sophomore Scott Seramur asked the author of the bill, College of Arts & Sciences senator and sophomore Jason Rae, if he believed this would bring more gay faculty members to Marquette who would “impose their homosexuality upon the students.”
Rae said the remark was an “invalid and baseless claim that tends to continue stereotypes of hatred.”
Although we’ve already established that the headline was an unbelievably tasteless action on the part of whoever wrote it and posted it and it should never have happened, from the few comments made (and looking at a post on another conservative blog)…I’m getting the impression that many people are interpreting the slam on Seramur as a slam on conservative politics and as an indication of the Tribune’s “liberalism.”
In reality, if you read the comment he made during the MUSG meeting as accounted above, his statement truly was intolerant and unprofessional. Regardless of Rae’s political inclinations and his motivation for wanting to pass the domestic partner benefits legislation, he’s absolutely correct in the above statement and Seramur’s comments were highly inappropriate.
I’m not saying that headline was right, because it certainly wasn’t…but my point here is that there is no reason for every little thing to be interpreted as an attack on conservative politics or an indication of the Trib’s/Marquette’s/the world’s liberalism. For all we know, you could be right…but there’s no need to jump immediately to that conclusion when there is a perfectly feasible - and non-divisive - explanation elsewhere.

Clearly Samantha. No inclination of being liberal…..hahahahhahah

That’s right KJC. As has long been established by here by the likes of Mr. Henak and Suhr et al, any remark of a personal nature, even one that’s clearly a joke + gross error in allowing it to be posted, is derived from conservative or liberal beliefs. No one has problems with their peers anymore bc they’re annoying, crass and ignorant, no, it’s bc they’re Republican or Democrat

At this point, no writers on this site and no comments prior to that of Samantha have made any reference to a political bias at the Tribune with regard to this issue.

Dr. McAdams mentioned something left vs. right but this post never seemed political to me.
The post is two paragraphs long and does not offer a single word of partisanship.

Samantha T, although you were not at the senate meeting and everything you heard is hearsay, you are correct in saying it is not a question of political bias; naturally, it is a question of morality.
