Sitting here in the hotel room between sessions. We got up here at 4pm, started with a game of air hockey on a table that was lacking in air, which I lost to the UWM Chair, 7 to 2. Then we caught up with UW-Green Bay - nice win on the Green Bay Mayor’s Race.
Convention gaveled in at 6pm … the crowd is diverse, 90 delegates from 15 different chapters. Our chair, the one and only Ms. Mary Ellen Burke, ran a tight ship. We read letters of greeting from Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen. We also heard from a representative from the Pax Americana Institute, based in Madison.
There were nominations for the various annual CR awards: CR of the Year, CR chapter of the year, Old Guard Award (for the CR that’s still fighting the Cold War), and the Ted Kennedy Award…
(Brandon grabbed the keyboard) Great to see 100 CRs in a room strewn with red, white and blue. Daniel is less than excited about his nomination for the Ted Kennedy award (for his ability to lead a late night tour of the Capitol after a few beers at the bar) but, I would definitely predict his victory in the Old Guard (most conservative) category. The Ted Kennedy award will most likely be lost to a more “serious contender”
For the record, Brandon is not the only old person here; there are several other recent alums supporting the cause and teachin the youngin’s how it’s done.
The Right Brothers Rock!
Tomorrow we’ll be simul-live-blogging the convention. Brandon, Mac Man that he is, brought two laptops, so we’ll have both the elder statesman and current activist perspectives. Until then, we’re off to Johnny T’s for pizza and pitchers. See you tomorrow morning, chipper and dapper!
