Outraged? Absolutely. But the reason not to be surprised about Michael McGee, Sr.’s on air comments about the death of Charlie Sykes’s mother has nothing to do with his disposition to ridiculousness.

Much should and will be made over how this relates to the Imus hoopla, but take the comments out of the context of the radio waves, and it’s just another reflection of a growing trend in liberal heartlessness and incivility in cases like this.

Consider this sampling of the working over of Tony Snow in the liberal blogosphere following the his cancer announcement:

I admit my bias shows with these stories. I hear about Tony Snow and say to myself, well, stand up every day, lie to the American people at the behest of your dictator-esque boss and well, how could a cancer NOT grow in you. Work for Fox News, spinning the truth in to a billion knots and how can your gut not rot? I know, it’s terrible. I admit it. I don’t wish anyone harm, even Tony Snow. And I do hope he recovers or at least does what he feels is best and surrounds himself with friends and family for his journey. But in the back of my head there’s Justin Timberlake’s “What goes around, goes around, comes around, comes all the way back around, ya..”

Check out the death wishes that flowed out of the close call attempt on Dick Cheney’s life:

In a nutshell, the [Bill Maher] said the world would be a safer place if the assassination attempt succeeded. And, he even had the nerve to reiterate it.

Look at the gross indifference of Markos Zuniga at the brutual torture and killing of some Americans in Fallujah:

That said, I feel nothing over the death of merceneries [sic]. They aren’t in Iraq because of orders, or because they are there trying to help the people make Iraq a better place. They are there to wage war for profit. Screw them.

Utter contempt in the face of tragedy and heartbreak is a disgusting affliction. And it seems to be spreading in liberal circles. The eerily casual nature of the cruel statements is thoroughly nauseating… but surprising? No more.

I’d like to thank you conservatives for being so civil while killing thousands of young American soldiers and tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians. Also, your large hearts have really done wonders for our reputation and credibilty around the world. By the way, claiming Bill Maher, McGee Sr., and a few radical bloggers is representational of liberalism in America borders on ridiculous.

  2. Dave Okoniewski Says:

Oops…I also meant to ask how you’d feel if I claimed Ann Coulter, Pat Robertson, and a few of your fellow bloggers were representational of the conservative movement in this country.

  3. Pez Says:

Well, people have made that claim in the past when Coulter made that remark about Edwards.

  4. Greg Says:

I don’t think incivility is only a trademark of liberals - unfortunately. I don’t even know if you can call McGee a liberal - that man is radical. He tried to restart the Black Panthers a few years ago, didn’t he? But come on, let’s be serious, we know that being a heartless a-hole isn’t a symptom of left or right.

  5. Simon Says:

It’s not a very good analogy to say conservatives are killing young American soldiers and Iraqi civilians and conservatives haven’t said they are happy about it either. Katie’s post specifically spoke to liberal pundits making comments about the dead and dying. If there are conservatives doing ther same thing i would like to know.

    Dave Okoniewski:

Perhaps you should get your facts straight; I am certain that it isn’t the Republican party that are killing our brave soldiers. Last I checked, it was the wicked, vile and baby-killing insurgents.

Maybe you should make a fact-finding trip to Iraq to see what is really going on before throwing out careless and reckless generalizations.

The female anchor at the end almost tries to explain away the comments at the end of this clip.

  8. The General Says:

After viewing that video, perhaps McGee Sr. would be best served taking the change out of his couch cushions he’s using to buy time for his show on WNOV and get himself a haircut and a lawn service.

  9. JMichael Says:

if you account for bill maher being let go from his previous show simply because he openly did not support republican politics, he’s got a right to the most severe criticisms.

other than that, i’m amused by the bloggers here. so much for screw being politically correct, but then again it’s not really funny, it doesn’t take a genius to see that every blogger on here makes exceptions on more principles than that simply when something you disagree with shows up

[...] imagine the national media storm if a conservative did this? The double standard is shocking and as Katie said, becoming more and more [...]

    Jake Creecy:

Thanks so much for pointing that out. It was so helpful. After taking a trip to Iraq over the weekend, I was surprised to discover that there are not actually Republicans over there shooting at our young men and women in uniform.

You and your war mongering pals just sit over in this country and cheer on our joke of a leader allowing this war and the killing to continue. (Spare me the arguement of “better there than here”…for the last 7 years almost everything you Republicans have said has turned out not to be true.)

Also, I will warn Daniel, Brandon, Short Balding Guy, Katie, Justin and Allison to not post my full name without my consent again.

  12. Dave Says:

…and Jake, please try to be consistent….clearly Katie needs a reminder about generalizations as well. Trying to pass of the views of a few morons as those of the majority of liberals?
