The Badger Blogger and MU Warrior are all over this and finally Channel 12 has picked up on it. However, where is the national outrage? Wisconsin talk show host and “racial hustler” Michael McGee, Sr., father of the brick throwing Milwaukee Alderman Michael McGee, Jr., mounted this completely ludicrous and disrespectful attack on the recently deceased mother of conservative radio talk show host Charlie Sykes on air:
“Mother Sykes, she dead. To me it’s the vengeance of God. I ain’t got no tears. Matter of fact a woman that would have a fool like that deserve whatever is coming her. She raised a sure enough idiot,†McGee said on his radio show. “My instincts say Charlie Sykes killed his momma, cuz she live out in this big palace in Mequon all isolated. He got tired of waiting for her money.â€
If this was a conservative talk show host it would be a national media spectacle! How can any human being say something like this, regardless of race. It appears WNOV, the station that broadcasts McGee’s show has pulled his next time slot but, will that be the end? Or will he be given back his slot? I can’t see them pulling his show permanently unless the liberal mainstream media actually pays attention to his hate speech. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Sykes family.
I posted on this over at NewsBusters.org for my first piece as a contributing writer for them.

Of course there is a double-standard. Obviously some people believe the past is a blank check for bad behavior. This double-standard will continue as long as people like those who booted Imus allow themselves to be pushed around.
If one ponders it though, it comes to mind that it may only be a case of the squeaky wheel. The left, and some elements of the black community, throw fits at the slightest provocation and threaten boycotts and hold demonstrations. Such acts draw widespread attention to their grievances, magnifying the act beyond all semblance of reality.
Perhaps the time has come for conservatives to follow the same recipe and call for boycotts, protests and all manner of ill-mannered disturbances to combat the double-standard. If Al Sharpton can throw a fit and rant and rave all over the media spectrum calling for Imus’ head, why not have Rush do the same?
Better yet, perhaps those threatened by the likes of Sharpton, like the good folks at MSNBC, should grow a pair and tell the PC nuts to go f*ck themselves. Let those folks scream all they want…let it fall upon deaf ears. Eventually they will get tired of screaming.
Moreover, I am appalled at his grammar.
This story has made Drudge.
While I am in no way excusing the comments of McGee Sr. or the behavior of McGee Jr. – I expect a heck of a lot more from elected officials, black, white, or whatever – I find your equation of telling people to “f” off with masculinity appalling as a man. You imply that in order to air a grievance, someone who is threatened by Sharpton’s calls for boycotts needs to “grow a pair”. Does this include women? Or if it is a man, do they have to grow a bigger pair? I realize this is something that gets bandied about colloquially pretty frequently, but let’s deconstruct the langauge and really think about what we’re saying: only men are strong enough to stand up and assert themselves. Not diggin it, man.
And I suppose if I don’t express outrage about McGee as well, I will be accused of having a liberal double standard, so here it is: McGee’s comments are absolutely appalling and he should never be given a public platform again.
It’s too bad the WISN story doesn’t include the fact that Sykes is conservative…
If he so chooses, Charlie Sykes can file a MASSIVE lawsuit against the McGees based on these statements (particularly concerning McGee’s hideous conspiracy theory). Judging from how WTMJ was handling this subject on the air this morning (brief comments from Wagner and no mention of it in their news briefs), I would not be surprised in the slightest if there is some preparation for legal action already underway.
Also, I also believe that the FCC is going to have a look into this case at some point. Would not be shocked if WNOV’s broadcast license is revoked as a result of this (it certainly should be considered).
JS Newswatch still has nothing up on it… to me that’s a sure sign there will be legal action taken almost immediately.
Not sure if the JS Newswatch not having any mention of this is indicative of whether or not legal action is on the way. Their media reporter’s blog/column had a brief mention of this this morning, and the paper has reported on the McGees before (albeit nortoriously late).
Someone at the paper has had to at least heard of this. For crying out loud, it’s on the front page of Drudge.
Michelle Malkin is also covering it: http://michellemalkin.com/archives/007450.htm
[...] Absolutely. But the reason not to be surprised about Michael McGee, Sr.’s on air comments about the death of Charlie Sykes’s mother has nothing to do with his disposition to [...]
no one should have been surprised about what Don Imus said either. no one should be shocked if while watching Bill O Reilly, or similar shows, if they are suddenly royally aggravated at the sheer idiocy of subject matter and poorly reasoned arguments that mean nothing.
not everyone has to make the classy move. and if you’re a talk show guy, it’s usually your job not to be classy. and even though i hate all talk shows in general, the truth is, I’m jealous of guys like Imus, and O Reilly who essentially get paid to be asshole. if anyone one here could be paid to go on radio or tv and just rail for 30 minutes or more on what has pissed you off that day, every single one of you would take the job and probably be very good at it
Greg: lighten up about the balls.
Jake: no. Sorry man, I’m pretty serious about the issue. I think we’re creative enough to think of another way to say “stand up for your beliefs” than “grow a pair”. In fact, I think “stand up for your beliefs” is perfectly fine. There are implications to language. Can I get a female perspective?
I have to agree with Greg, here. It’s getting a little monotonous to have to regulate some of the very extreme comments (none from this thread), especially from the trolls who have no connection to Marquette University. Let’s at least be more dignified than the people who aren’t associated with MU and lack enough of a life to spend time elsewhere.
