From Nicholas Sarkozy’s acceptance speech earlier today, the now president-elect of the French Republic: The words for America are nice:
I want to launch an appeal to our American friends to tell them that they can count on our friendship in the tragedies of history, which we have faced together. I want to tell them that France will always be by their side when they will need her. But I want to tell them as well that friendship is accepting that ones friends can act differently, and that a great nation like the United States has the duty to not obstruct the fight against global warming…
The words to other peoples of the world are straight-up neocon:
I want to launch an appeal to all those in the world who believe in the values of tolerance, freedom, democracy, humanism. To all those who are persecuted by tyranny and dictatorship, to all children around the world, to all women ill-treated in the world, I want to say that the pride and the duty of France will be to be on their side….
France will not abandon women forced to wear the burka. France will not abandon women who do not have freedom. France will be on the side of oppressed peoples. It is France’s message, France’s identity, France’s history.
Based on the results of this election, I am suspending my use of the terms “Freedom Fries” and “Freedom Toast” for one month as a probationary period. If this guy works out like we’re all hoping, I will restore the words France and French to my culinary vocabulary.

The only thing I don’t like is the Global Warming stuff… other than that, its a miracle. Maybe this guy will clean up some of their Socialism problems
The Sarkozy Victory Speech
Nice post. I too am eager to see if Sarkozy can chart a new course for France, and Europe.
And say what you will about France hating freedom and democracy, but they had 84 per cent voter turnout, which kinda puts our numbers to shame.
It’s france… right wing = moderate there, but it was still better then the socialist.
On another topic… why can’t we at least have good looking liberals? Royal if kind of hot for a 50 year-old.
… I’m just sayin….

“why can’t we at least have good looking liberals? Royal if kind of hot for a 50 year-old.”
Haha… they are French– and a lot of them pro-French. Here socialists are anti-American… negative people tend to look ugly… thats my observation anyway.
Dan do you think this election is a preview to our 2008 elections?
Being ugly on the outside is preferred to being ugly on the inside. Just food for thought…
And Socialists aren’t anti-American, they’re anti-the hypocrisy of our government. Land of the Free is a boldfaced lie, because freedom is only available to those that fit into a specific mold of what an “American” is supposed to be. God forbid you want to be Muslim or are gay or choose to be a single mom… America doesn’t think you deserve a whole lot then…
I hope that France sticks to its promise of being supportive of the oppressed. America certainly isn’t.
If France is indeed supportive of “unpopular” groups of people then the oppressed sure do have an interesting way of returning the favor.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2....._in_France
20 nights of rioting
8,973 vehicles burned
2,888 arrests
Probable causes:
-Discrimination against Muslims throughout France
-20% unemployment rates in the Muslim suburbs (compared to 10% throughout France)
-Large numbers of French Muslims living in poverty
-Inability for France to accept the Muslim culture
At least from an economic standpoint, it seems difficult to disagree that socialism is hurting the oppressed in France.
Your worldview never ceases to amaze me, mu socialist…
The French did a great job of supporting the Jews circa early 1940′s.
Those peaceful Europeans …
No system is more oppressive than socialism. Governments can not push the weakest to be equal to the strongest by making the weak strong. They only work to make the strong weaker by creating barriers and limitations.
Those limitations have an impact, but they cannot stifle ingenuity and individual determination.
Socialists feverishly work to limit success by controlling commerce and personal liberty but the efforts are futile. The strongest always find a way to prosper and they will find ways to overcome the government restraints.
Perhaps when MU Socialist grows up a little bit or perhaps discovers the real-world, his/her views will adjust accordingly.
Socialism cannot be achieved without brute force and repression by a centralized government. Compassion – hardly.
From what I gather… MU Socialist is a young lady. She’ll moderate a little once she gets married I’m sure, unless she choses to be a single parent? I enjoy posting with her because she is one of the few that definitely opposes all my view points.
MU Socialist… I don’t think Liberals are anti-American, they aren’t anti-Christian, and a lot of them are for family values. They just have a different worldview but its not dangerous but healthy for debate. I have many friends who are liberal and we agree on many things… but disagree on others too but its a healthy.
However, Socialists are anti-American… a lot of them are Stalinist or Anarchist (the kind that perform Solider effigies) because they aren’t even on the spectrum, they are on a different level. Socialists want America defeated, our system of government to fail, segregation of our diverse peoples and that they should fit some kind of mold to succeed, humans to be on the same level of animals so they can be cloned or aborted at will, against the nuclear family, against a strong national defense, elimination of sovereignty when it comes to immigration, anti-personal defense they want full government control of large portions of our economy because they don’t believe in a free market system, and they are anti-Christian.
Socialism is a bad disease that even some of our Presidential candidates, certain members of Congress, and even some mayors are meddling in.
We live in the greatest country to have ever existed… the opportunities available are great… Almost anyone can become President of the United States or a CEO of a major company, or pursue a dream. People can worship as they please. Where socialism is present is in our inner cities and we have some big problems there. They can be solved but it’ll take effort and leaders that really do care about their situation rather than their votes.
People, people, relax. It’s a little “nom de cyber.” I think it’s rather humorous. The name used as a handle for comments on a blog is not meant to illustrate everything about someone’s personality. Let’s kinda be careful about presuming what personality people have.
I was talking about her message, not her moniker.
“The French did a great job of supporting the Jews circa early 1940’s.”
I defy anyone with a grasp on history to say that the U.S. supported Jews in the early 1940′s! Let’s not forget that as the Jews attempted to flee Europe to safety in th U.S., the U.S. reacted by making preexisting immigration quotas even stricter and denying asylum to would-be immigrants fleeing the Holocaust, denying life and liberty (those inalienable rights) to tens of thousands of Jews who subsequently perished. Not to mention that as the extent of the genocide in Europe became evident, repeated calls within the military to destroy the train tracks allowing the Nazis to transport their victims to the death camps were rejected out-of-hand by higher-ups who declared such targets to be “unimportant” and the genocide in Europe to be “not our problem”. Not to mention that the U.S. refused to get involved in WWII until it threatened us directly–the lives of millions of Jews, Roma, homosexuals, political dissenters, and other “enemies of the state” meant nothing to this country whatever.
Feel free to continue calling the kettle black, though…
Incidentally, I too am a young woman–not a lady, thank you very much–but I fail to see what marriage has to do with one’s political views. Could someone please explain that to me?
To be fair, the US wasn’t the one denying people their lives or liberty. I know you were just trying to make a rhetorical flourish, but that seems to imply that we have a constitutional duty to fix all that is evil in the world. We don’t.
Hi Jessica, sorry you’re offended by ‘lady’ versus ‘woman’… I’ll remember that next time. To me it means the same thing.
I’ve seen many of my friends get married, following marriage they either have moderated because their husband was more conservative (and they leaned liberal)… or they gained more experience because they were married, had a job, paid bills, owned a home and now have kids. Some of my conservative friends have even become a little more moderate than before. However, this isn’t always the case… and I can’t speak for your future, only my experience. And I mean actual conservative, moderate, liberal… not Republican or Democrat.
And Dan… we don’t have a constitutional duty to fix evil in the world, however we can ensure that the United State of America remains the shining beacon on the hill. What Jessica was referring to was the Socialist ideas that creeped into our government in the 1930s. If you know your history, back than people thought Democracy failed because of the Great Depression– Hence the ‘New Deal’, flood of other social programs, and massive government projects not to mention the Japanese internment camps and government take over of property. Its a lesson of history and we must stop any attempt from it happening again.
No, not offended at all, Spet3r! It’s a matter of preference. (“Lady” to me sounds odd, given that men aren’t called “young lords”. And I feel wrong being called by what was and is a hereditary title; it sounds, well, hubristic, I suppose?) Your marriage comment actually makes a lot of sense to me now that you’ve explained it, and I’d guess that just plain age has a similar effect. Otherwise, there would be an awful lot of aging hippies running around…
Dan, I would never compare my country to Nazi Germany! I think Spet3r said it better than me, it was a historical period and the country has changed a lot since then. But so has France. I’m not a big fan of France, but it isn’t the same country it was in the 1940′s, thank God.
Thanks Jessica… glad it helped
And be careful about those aging hippies, cuz they are around… pretty scary because they end up in classrooms, school administrations, and government offices.
I don’t like most hippies. They get better once they turn into yuppies though.
