Thanks Jessica... glad it helped :D

And be careful about those aging hippies, cuz they are around... pretty scary because they end up in classrooms, school administrations, and government offices.

No, not offended at all, Spet3r! It's a matter of preference. ("Lady" to me sounds odd, given that men aren't called "young lords". And I feel wrong being called by what was and is a hereditary title; it sounds, well, hubristic, I suppose?) Your marriage comment actually makes a lot of sense to me now that you've explained it, and I'd guess that just plain age has a similar effect. Otherwise, there would be an awful lot of aging hippies running around... :)

Dan, I would never compare my country to Nazi Germany! I think Spet3r said it better than me, it was a historical period and the country has changed a lot since then. But so has France. I'm not a big fan of France, but it isn't the same country it was in the 1940's, thank God.

Hi Jessica, sorry you're offended by 'lady' versus 'woman'... I'll remember that next time. To me it means the same thing.

I've seen many of my friends get married, following marriage they either have moderated because their husband was more conservative (and they leaned liberal)... or they gained more experience because they were married, had a job, paid bills, owned a home and now have kids. Some of my conservative friends have even become a little more moderate than before. However, this isn't always the case... and I can't speak for your future, only my experience. And I mean actual conservative, moderate, liberal... not Republican or Democrat.

And Dan... we don't have a constitutional duty to fix evil in the world, however we can ensure that the United State of America remains the shining beacon on the hill. What Jessica was referring to was the Socialist ideas that creeped into our government in the 1930s. If you know your history, back than people thought Democracy failed because of the Great Depression-- Hence the 'New Deal', flood of other social programs, and massive government projects not to mention the Japanese internment camps and government take over of property. Its a lesson of history and we must stop any attempt from it happening again.

To be fair, the US wasn't the one denying people their lives or liberty. I know you were just trying to make a rhetorical flourish, but that seems to imply that we have a constitutional duty to fix all that is evil in the world. We don't.

Incidentally, I too am a young woman--not a lady, thank you very much--but I fail to see what marriage has to do with one's political views. Could someone please explain that to me?

"The French did a great job of supporting the Jews circa early 1940’s."

I defy anyone with a grasp on history to say that the U.S. supported Jews in the early 1940's! Let's not forget that as the Jews attempted to flee Europe to safety in th U.S., the U.S. reacted by making preexisting immigration quotas even stricter and denying asylum to would-be immigrants fleeing the Holocaust, denying life and liberty (those inalienable rights) to tens of thousands of Jews who subsequently perished. Not to mention that as the extent of the genocide in Europe became evident, repeated calls within the military to destroy the train tracks allowing the Nazis to transport their victims to the death camps were rejected out-of-hand by higher-ups who declared such targets to be "unimportant" and the genocide in Europe to be "not our problem". Not to mention that the U.S. refused to get involved in WWII until it threatened us directly--the lives of millions of Jews, Roma, homosexuals, political dissenters, and other "enemies of the state" meant nothing to this country whatever.

Feel free to continue calling the kettle black, though...
