The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Dan Bice reported Sunday on possible replacements for retiring Judge Rudy Randa;

Nothing like an opening on the federal bench to get the legal community buzzing.

Already, Milwaukee County Judge Michael Brennan is considered the favorite to replace U.S. District Judge Rudolph Randa, who is moving to senior status. A couple of other Milwaukee County judges - William Brash and M. Joseph Donald - and county Corporation Counsel Bill Domina confirmed their interest in the lifetime appointment.

But here’s the most intriguing option: Will Biskupic, the embattled U.S. attorney, put in for the post?

“I’m not going to apply,” Biskupic said without elaboration.

I have met Judge Brennan through the Federalist Society and believe he would make an excellent candidate for district court judge. I am not familiar with Judges Brash or Donald. I have not met Mr. Domina, but recall his widely-reported run-in with Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker over the Waukesha schools referendum. I am saddened that Mr. Biskupic will not pursue the post.

    I see in today’s Milw. Journal Sentinel that attorney Tom Shriner, who has seen the process first hand as a recommended applicant for the 7th Circuit slot, will be one of the State Bar’s appointments to the Wisconsin Nominating Commission. That means he is out as a possible candidate.
