Deep thought: If the entire McCain for president press staff quits, who will spin the story that McCain’s still viable?

Meanwhile, an update on what I’m calling the Federalist Society presidential primary:
From Fox News, via Bench Memos and The Brody File:

GOP frontrunner Rudy Giuliani will unveil his “Justice Advisory Committee” this week … Former U.S. solicitor general under President Bush, Ted Olson, will chair the panel [previously reported]. Former Bush administration Deputy Attorney General Larry Thompson and filibustered judicial nominee Miguel A. Estrada will be among the “who’s who” of conservative legal and judicial advisers to Giuliani.

Larry Thompson, who served in the first term under AG Ashcroft, is an African-American conservative who now works as general counsel for PepsiCo. His name has come up as a possible Supreme Court nominee for President Bush. We’ll see who else is on the Giuliani list, but I expect it to be long and impressive. While not a Federalist Society man, Rudy was US Attorney for the Southern District of New York and Associate Attorney General (#3) in the Reagan Administration, not to mention named partner at Bracewell & Giuliani.

We’ve seen no movement on the Lawyers for McCain front, and Romney continues to sit pretty on an impressive list of Federalist Society and RNLA national leaders, now including Professors Glendon and Kmiec.

Meanwhile, Politico has David McIntosh, a former congressman from Indiana who is a founder and national vice chairman of the Federalist Society, pegged as head of domestic policy for Fred Thompson’s nascent presidential candidacy.

We’ll watch and wait to see who else emerges on Giuliani’s list later in the week. Until then…
