I don’t understand this fascination with Fred. What conservative thing did he do while in the senate? Can’t think of it bc there was none!

I suppose some of that conservative record includes voting for campaign finance laws like McCain Feingold, lobbying for abortion rights group, and not voting to convict Bill Clinton for his impeachment.
From Fred’s statement on the impeachment vote:
“Never has the Senate convicted on an article worded such as this. Several crimes or categories of crimes (the exact number cannot be determined from reading the article) are charged in this one article. The perjurious statements are not described, nor are their dates. In large part, this article charges that the President committed perjury because he denied prior perjury. At the outset, it is clear that a count such as this in an indictment would not survive court challenge…”
In other words, the House did a lousy job when drawing up the article of impeachment on the perjury charge, and on a legal basis, Fred could not vote to impeach on that charge. If any “apologies are in order” it’s the authors of Article 1 for for their vague and unspecific bill of impeachment. You can’t blame a judge for not convicting a defendant when the prosecutor hands you a indictment which doesn’t stand up to the measure of the law.
You also conveniently omitted the fact that Fred DID vote to convict (impeach) Clinton on the obstruction of justice charge.

You can’t espouse a position like “states’ rights” when it serves to inflict your religious views on the rest of us and then contradict that position when it hurts your position.
