4 Sure Signs of a Huckabee Surge:

1. Statistical Tie for 2nd in the South Carolina Polls
Check your link again... it's McCain and Huckabee tied at 24% - Thompson continuing to slip at 4th with 16%.

2. Fundraising Goals Surpassed - $300,000 in less than 24 hours
http://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=Blogs.View&Blog_id=1205

3. Website Traffic - Number of Visitors (far more traffic than Thompson)
http://siteanalytics.compete.com/mikehuckabee.com+fredthompson.com/?metric=uv (your "velocity" metric is a bit misleading if you ask me)

4. Huckabee has the money to run some real advertising in SC and continues to gain momentum in fundraising every day to support his upcoming ads in FL and more!

Go Mike Go!

The fact that McCain seems to be ruffling some feathers is probably a good sign for his chances in the general election. Winston Churchill said there two kinds of success, "initial, and ultimate," 2006 was an initial success for the dems, I am afraid that unless the GOP runs McCain, 2008 willl be their ultimate sucess and finnish the job they started 2 years ago.

America is a center-right country, but it is not neccesarily a rank-and-file GOP country, independents and liberals will vote for McCain, thank God for it! I don't see a lot of cross over votes comming for Gilliani despite his best efforts to be a social liberal. I really will not take any criticism of McCain or Huckabee seriously unless it is prefaced by saying that Rudy is a social liberal. There is some kind of McCain magic, let's just run with it.

This illegal bashing is getting counterproductive. McCain has said he will secure the borders, what more can you want? Yes illegals have broken a law by comming into the country, but does breaking one law neccesarily make you a criminal?

Well maybe in the strictest sense it does, but this draconian approach seems tantamount to saying, if you'll permit me to make up an analogy on the fly, "ANYONE WHO HAS EVER GONE OVER THE SPEED LIMIT IS AN ILLEGAL DRIVER, THEY SHOULD LOSE THEIR LICENSE. I DONT CARE IF THEY WERE RUSHING TO TAKE THEIR WIFE TO THE HOSPITAL, THEY BROKE THE LAWS, LETS DEVOUT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN RESOURCES TO TAKING ALL THESE NO GOOD LAW BREAKERS DOWN, THEY ARE JUST CROWDING UP THE ROADS FOR PERFECT DRIVERS LIKE ME."

For the billionth time, illegal immigrants aren't bad for the economy, if we are going off pure capitalism here (lest we be branded some sort of crazy Huckabee style populist God... I mean Reegan, forbid), I think the very fact that they are being hired simply means the market has spoken.

Personally I have never had any trouble getting a job washing dishes or as a janitor, I have worked these jobs. Since these are the sort of jobs illegal immigrants do as well, I don't think they are displacing "middle class Americans" as somone said. Sorry, no one is going to cross the Rio Grande river in the dead of night and the next day become a high school history teacher or an insurance salesman. (Barbara)

As for Fred surging, honestly I could draw a "capicity" crowd in South Carolina. I think getting too small of a space for one's even then yakking to the media about how people are packed in and in line at the door to see you is a political trick that was old hat by the time Andrew Jackson ran for office.

Maybe people are fired up about Fred's message, but I don't think Fred is. There really is no excuse for his not campaigning in the first few primaries. Huckabee has escaped being branded a regional candidate by winning and placing well in Northern States, it seems to me that Fred, camped out in SC with his TN drawl is playing a game of "identity politcs," along the lines of, vote for me, I am a southerner, I drive a red pick up truck and I like guns.

Taking an unpopular stand based on principles and sticking with it to the bitter end is the oppoiste of being a demagouge. (Steve)

McCain has not been whining about his loss to Bush in 2000, he rallied to Bush and campaigned for him then, and in 2004, and has been steadfast with the president on the surge and on immigration. (Richard)

The littany of Fred possitions is a nice laundry list of boiler-plate big "R" republicansim and frankly I don't see the possitions you have listed there for Fred as being more than hair diffrent from Romney's and an inch from McCain's. (RTerry)

I think people perfer to elect strong and principled leaders who they disagee with on an issue or two though, rather than somone who's platform is tailor made for the previous election. Fred and Romney may be "well rounded" candidates, but McCain, Huckabee, and even Ron Paul are "sharp" candidates, they stand for something and they standfast, that is what I want in a president.

Just because one's insult of McCain is prefaced by saying "Well yes he did honorable service for this country" is not a blank check to attack the man in such a way. I don't think anyone can question McCain's patriotism.

BJ I can hit the brandy win or loose my friend!

Fred is unabashedly the best choice for the Republican Party & the *only* one who can represent all of our constituents.

Always been Pro-Life, for the Religious Right
Excellent on Taxes, for the Fiscal Conservatives
He's got the right stance on Immigration
He's right on building a strong Military
He's right on 2nd Amendment rights

The only thing Fred has against him is the Media. That should tell you all you need to know! If you want a Republican that can win the presidency, elect a candidate in the Primary whom all of us can back without sacrificing a single one of our values. I'm With Fred, and you should be too!
