Calling All Students

Reports in the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and Washington Times this week note the significant increase in youth activism in the pro-life movement. The reports stress the important role that college students play as volunteers, activists, and campaigners for the values they believe in.
Students at Marquette and elsewhere in the Milwaukee area have an opportunity to get active for their beleifs in advance of this April’s election. At www.StudentsforWalker.org, you can sign up to help Scott Walker as he seeks reelection as Milwaukee County Executive. The new website includes profiles of Walker’s student interns, who talk about why they chose to get active in this campaign.
Why should you get involved? For starters, Scott is a great guy, a good executive, and right on the issues. But the issue that should be most pertinent to us as students is his commitment to not raise property taxes. We are spending a lot of money to get a good college education, and we want to make sure that there are jobs for us when we graduate. But if economic forces continue to force businesses out of our state, we may be forced out to. We’ll have to go where the jobs are, even if that means leaving behind friends, family, and alma mater. Scott Walker understands that we need businesses to want to stay, and grow, here in Milwaukee County, and he’ll do what he can to make it happen. He knows that starts with low taxes.
Four years ago, as a freshman poli sci major at Marquette, I did my first tour of duty as a Student for Walker. I met two of my best friends working on that race, and made important connections with Mr. Walker and his team (Scott and I are Facebook friends). Plus, I got four years of living with a quality leader and genuine good guy at the helm of Milwaukee County. I was pleased to do so then, and I’m excited to sign up for another tour of duty. Won’t you join me? Start at www.StudentsforWalker.org.
