Bloggers, at least, those on this blog, make insightful commentary their bread and butter. There are, however, those rare occasions when the nature of a statement or report is so obvious, it suffices to simply broadcast the statement to a wider audience, who will be justly shocked at the statement. Dr. Christine Krueger, associate professor of English and director of the Core Curriculum here at Marquette, provides one such instance in her comments to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel earlier this week.

“I think part of why this is attracting attention is that all the metaphors we used to use – melting pot, mosaic – just aren’t working anymore, because they let us skirt the ideas of injustice and equal distribution of goods,” said Christine Krueger, an associate professor of English at Marquette University and the director of core curriculum. …

Marquette University restructured its core studies courses in 2003 and added a diverse cultures requirement. But three years ago, the university also got involved in a program that aims to infuse all areas of the curriculum with global and multicultural issues.

“Diversity education means domestic diversity, global diversity, social justice, and it also means getting students a good job,” Krueger said. “I want them to figure out resource distribution and economics to make real, transformative changes for justice. That means the philosophy major also has to be able to read a spreadsheet.”

Two quick comments. One, I doubt that most professors in Marquette’s economics department would agree with Prof. Krueger’s view of economics.

Two, are our undergraduates really paying $28,000 a year for an indoctrination in socialism?

There was a Plan implemented in the late 50s and was exposed in the late 60s for a take over of the American way of life from within.

We can see it in our schools both lower and higher. We see it in our politics. We see it in policies.

It has taken nearly 50 years to get us to where we are and it will take 50 years to correct the problems.

On the upside, if they learn how to work with spreadsheets the futility of such schemes may become more apparent.

The students may get to the “oh, you have to take away in order to give away.” moment. They may even begin to consider the point of even getting a degree when their wages will be taken and given to someone who didn’t complete high school.

    C. Krueger, equal distribution of “goods, how about earning “it”! Also, after college, go find your “own” job! What a “dunce”!

If you wanted to go to a university run by right-wing conservatives, why didn’t you go to Pepperdine? You could have be attending a law school run by Bill Clinton’s prosecutor, who serves as Dean. And the Pepperdine campus is in a little better neighborhood!

Wally, if you hate George Bush why do you live in America you could have moved to Canada. Just another in your series of well-thought out comments on this blog.

By way of full disclosure, I had a class with Prof. Krueger my second year as an undergraduate. She is a very nice person and a good professor. She’s just quite liberal.

Luke, in your haste to write like a jackass, you failed to think at all. Its quite simple….you all chose to come to Marquette. I did not choose the president. You see the difference?

No Dave, I think Luke’s point is, you choose to live in the USA. after all your free to leave whenever you want…
