Sorry I missed yesterday. I’ve got a big mid-term next week and the day just got away from me. So for those waiting with baited breath, here’s another piece of legislation sponsored by Senator Lena Taylor for you to consider:
Senator Taylor has been a leader in the fight to reform barbering and cosmetology licensing. She recently held a pair of listening sessions (PDF, page 3 and PDF page 3) with senior officials from the Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing to discuss the current scheme, whereby barbering and cosmetology are regulated by the same license, “even though the two fields require very different skill sets.” She is the sponsor of SB 504, which would allow a licensed barber/cosmetologist manager to delegate to an experienced licensed barber/cosmetologist the supervision of an apprentice barber/cosmetologist.
Of course, all of this prompts a very obvious question: Rather than futzing with the licensing requirements for barbers and cosmetologists, why not introduce a law dumping these archaic regulations, removing the barriers to entry, and allowing people to pursue their vocation without getting the government’s okay first?
Meanwhile, in other county executive race news, Scott Walker has up a new web video talking about taxes. This discussion is particularly important when juxtaposed against Senator Taylor’s recent comments supporting an increase in the sales tax.

Man, you’re a pretty big moron if you think people who use chemicals on our scalp and face shouldn’t be licensed.
The bill was introduced because right now barbers have to have the same extensive training as cosmetologists, even though they don’t do the same thing. The bill actually removes some of the regulations.
Had you actually read the legislation in your quest to make fun of elected officials, you’d know that. The view from the cheap seats must be pretty good eh.
Just remember, at the end of the day you do nothing more than comment on the lives of people who matter.
