Those of you who are regular blog readers know that I donated to both Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney in the GOP primary for president. And so I’m very disappointed that Huckabee’s is directing concentrated fire at Romney’s VP chances when there are better battles to fight. Jonathan Martin from Politico reports:

For the second consecutive day, Mike Huckabee made public statements suggesting John McCain ought not pick Mitt Romney as his running mate. “I think there are better choices for Sen. McCain that have the approval of value voters,” Huckabee said today on Fox News. Yesterday, he told CBS that many Republicans are “not necessarily comfortable” with Romney because of his changed positions.

Additionally, Huckabee delegates in Michigan and Ohio are conferring with McCain staff and urging him NOT to pick Mitt Romney. Their common concern is that Mitt Romney was once pro-choice.

Meanwhile, John McCain is floating a trial balloon about selecting Tom Ridge, who is PRESENTLY pro-choice! McCain is intentionally mentioning Ridge now to gauge reaction from religious conservative voters. And what’s he hearing from one of the movement’s most prominent voices? Anyone but Romney – NOT No Tom Ridge.

Very disappointing.

Picking Tom Ridge will be a disaster for John McCain… I hope he doesn’t do it
