(h/t: Badger Blog)
There have been some posts a little while back about the Barry Obama/ Bill Ayers connection.
Well McCain is finally running an ad highlighting their closeness.
I’m waiting for some of you to go off on one of those “the depths republican’s will sink to to win an election” rants, but then again you clowns think ACORN and giving crap housing loans to people that had bad credit was a good idea.

Actually, I hope the McCain camp keeps up with these attacks, because the only thing they’re succeeding in doing is making themselves look out of touch and completely devoid of any real ideas.
People are terrified right now about the economy and could not care less about Ayers or Wright or any of that nonsense. And, to top it off, according to Fox News, 61% of voters (and 64% of independents) say the Ayers issue will make “no difference” in their likelihood of voting for Obama.
So, please, here’s hoping McCain keeps wasting money and time on stuff like this. No one outside the GOP base cares.
As McCain himself said, “Sooner or later, people are going to figure out if all you run is negative attack ads you don’t have much of a vision for the future or you’re not ready to articulate it.”
McCain is 100% right. And the people have now figured that out.
Yes, keep these ads going. I want the GOP to get as nasty and mean spirited as they can. Then Obama can keep talking about the issues and win big.
What Evan said. I’m pleased as punch that McCain is using such an ineffective line of attack, and I’d love to see him keep it up until November 4.
An attack like this might be more effective in any other election, but I guess not this time. Obama tried to attack McCain by portraying McCain as not being able to use a computer, and even his running mate disapproved. Voters are going to be particularly turned off by attack ads at this time because want to hear what candidates want to say about this issues rather than hear attack after attack. I think if people thought the economy was stronger they’d maybe be more responsive. But since the economy and the stock market have taken a nose dive and the Palin effect has sort of worn off, McCain may be better served spending his campaign money on other things instead of attack ads. Perhaps had he released this commercial a month ago, he would have been better off. Just given the present circumstances, McCain looks like he is just attacking, not getting his message out. Just look at the polls. Clearly, his ads and his approach are not working.
Not that I always agree or like this guy, Bill Kristol had a column in the NYT yesterday advocating the McCain should fire his campaign: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10.....ref=slogin
Unfortunately, Justin, I don’t think the American people are really going to know the “real” Barack Obama until he is in office despite the current efforts to expose Obama’s suspicious past and far-left inclinations. Sigh.
Sarah, the American people are getting to know Barack Obama– and they think he is great. You assume because he is a Democrat he is some radical Marxist. Obama is winning because people realize all the attacks against his character are false and that he is indeed an inspirational leader. I think we may witness the last election where attack ads are used. Americans have grown tired of partisanship and they want real leadership.
Richard –
The American people are getting to know a Barack Obama, the great orator, and are overlooking Barack Obama, the far-left liberal. They are getting caught up in rhetoric of hopes and dreams and forgetting about what makes sound policy. Given the critical times we are in, Americans want any kind of leadership and they are putting political philosophy and policy approach on the back burner. I understand this is an emotional election, but America needs to get its head on straight. Just because they perceive Barack Obama as a good leader does not mean he is going to be one. Having sound policy based on sound principles is just as important as to whether you can ispire people. Otherwise you’re just inspiring people and instituting bad policy that will have bad consequences later. And that is something everyone may have their own opinion about, but that’s my opinion.
This is why I think John McCain needs to wake up, get rid of these attack ads, and distinguish himself by putting forth policy proposals based on free enterprise, limited government, and individual liberty.
I care about real and principled ideas and how they translate into policy. Barack Obama is a poster child of the left-liberal progressive political “tradition” that has unfortunately has a growing number of American sympathizers. His ideas: big government, big bureaucracy, high spending. His ideas into policy: more social programs, progressive taxation, government-run health care, to name a few. I think that most Democrats are leftists because the very intellectual and practical underpinnings of their policies are inherently socialist.
And just to emphasize, I NEVER supported John McCain in the first place. He is probably the second to last person I wanted to win the Republican nomination (Mike Huckabee was last). Now I have to talk about John McCain since he is the GOP candidate and he is the candidate who is more likely to safeguard individual liberty and limit government. If I talked about how I wanted Newt Gingrich to be president, I’d be just irrelevant. If you read my previous posts, Richard, you would know, I do NOT drink the McCain Kool aid. I’m not party slave and I care just as much about the ideas and principles that underline a governing and political philosophy just as much as I care about the strength of a candidate’s leadership ability.
Barack Obama is not even close to being a Socialist. I’m on the Young Democratic Socialists of America mailing list, and let me tell you, we aren’t pleased with Obama in the least. But he’s the lesser of two evils and at least falls on the progressive side of the political spectrum.
And anyway, do your homework. Many dictators have claimed to be “communist” or “socialist” but are really just using bits and pieces of the actual concept in order to justify genocide. I suggest studying the prosperity of Milwaukee under Socialist mayors (it took a LONG time for the effects of the Great Depression to affect Milwaukee because we were so well-off under Socialist leadership), and of the Scandinavian countries that are currently in a Socialist system of government. They have some of the highest standards of living in the world because they can afford to. Cross check that success with Obama’s plans – he’s NOT a socialist.
Also, I’m pretty sure the whole Obama/Ayers connection has been debunked like 40 million times already. At this point, it’s just sad.
