As Daniel hypes a spring race for DPI which has a primary on February 17, I too have taken to a race that hits close to home: The Menomonee Falls Village President race.

The race has three candidates: Randy Newman, the infamous Jefferson Davis and political newcomer David Phillips.

Yes Jefferson Davis is making a second attempt to reenter the Menomonee Falls political spectrum. Jefferson Davis is pretty much the Menomonee Falls version of Governor Blago. This time, Jefferson Davis is running for the same position he was forced to resign in 2005 under campaign fraud. (Yes it seems like the Menomonee Falls area has a knack for fraudulent Republicans.) For those of you who need a refresher on the Dismal Davis chronicle, start here, then go here, here, here, here, here and finish here. Hat tip: Paul’s Falls for taking the time to show how ridiculous this guy has been.

As for Randy you can see can see campaign video here. Couldn’t resist…

The final candidate in the race is the one getting my endorsement: David Phillips

Phillips is a 50 year resident of Menomonee Falls, who settled there after getting out of the Navy. He’s been very active in the community over the past 50 years as well, including the Neighborhood Watch Program where he is a block captain for the area, which shows his commitment to public safety.

Dave has also been active in the Menomonee Falls School district, including the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. The RSVP program which tours area elementary and middle schools highlighting hobbies of the volunteers and things they did during their childhood. Phillips has also been active in the school district and regularly voices his opinion at school board meetings. I think he may have an equal if not better attendance record that some of the board members themselves. He takes education seriously and wants to do everything within his power to better to education of Menomonee Falls residents.

Phillips, a retired contractor in mechanical drafting, used to own his own small business. He understands that in an economic situation as poor as this, jobs may be scarce, but it’s still important to help businesses grow and expand. Projects like Woodman’s (which will hopefully find a new suitable location) will attract jobs, other business and bring in revenue that will help Menomonee Falls grow. Phillips also promises to hold the line on taxes and do anything he can to reduce the tax burden on families and area businesses. He understand that this is a crucial time for business both nationally and locally, especially with Milwaukee businesses closing down because they can’t afford the 9 days paid sick leave, Menomonee Falls needs to create a business atmosphere as inviting as possible for business that could be looking to relocate.

David also has the goal of creating more communication and transparency between the Village Presidency and the community. Phillips has been active in Menomonee Falls Cable Access Channel 14, taping Menomonee Falls School Board meetings, village parades as well as many other things. He realizes that it could be a pivotal tool in communication between the office and the community.

On February 17th the people of Menomonee Falls will have a choice: A choice to move forward and change the political atmosphere or to continue status quo mediocrity or worse, to return to the culture of corruption from 5 years ago. To move Menomonee Falls successfully into the future and to change the political culture of the area: Vote for David Phillips for Village President.
