It’s great to back in DC with a bunch of conservatives. Being out here has been absolutely amazing, and seeing the CPAC speakers were great but being able to see fellow gop3er Dan Suhr, Brent Gardner and the CRs at the Les Aspin Center is still a big highlight.

Getting in on Thursday I spent more time sightseeing and visiting my congressional office than I did at CPAC. However my congressman was away when I stepped in but that’s ok. I was able to raid the congressional gift shop and pick up a bunch of cool stuff like notebooks and the like

I thought Friday was the highlight of CPAC in terms of speakers in my opinion. I got to see Newt, Ron Paul and Mitt. Newt was as witty and as brilliant as ever. He is definitely a smart man that had some great ideas, that he has always stood behind, which will bring success in the future of the party.

I must say, Ron Paul is not as out there as I first suspected. He and Newt spoke about some similar issues and had some of the same thoughts. Both pushed for an ending of the capital gains tax. Paul is definitely a fiscal conservative and I can’t disagree with him there. He is putting legislation out there to audit the entire Federal Reserve. This may have been the best idea I heard at CPAC. His love of the gold standard goes a little far for me and his isolationism doesn’t fit with my neo-con foreign policy. Romney gave a great “I’m running for President” style speech too. I think he’ll run, even though it’s rather early to make that guess. He finished first in the straw poll, with Jindal finishing second, though I think he has won each of the last 3 straw polls

Saturday I got to check out the exhibit hall. A lot of good stuff in there. It was the only chance I had to find out much about Sarah 2012. I was really hoping she’d be here this year because I do want to figure out if I should decide to support her or not. I really don’t think I will, but I was kinda hoping that I would get a chance at CPAC to judge. I got my book signed by SE Cupp too, but I was too stupid to ask for a picture. Coulter spoke today too. Ann’s speech was a lot of one liner but here’s her best line: The media compared Obama to Jesus. I lost a bet. They do know who Jesus is. But as the leader of twelve apostles, even Jesus had more executive experience than Obama.”

I didn’t get to see Rush’s speech live but I was able to catch it and it was a great speech. He went an hour over his expected time and you can’t ask for anything more from the vocal leader of the Republican Party.

Of course it was a great CPAC, being able to be around so many young republicans from across the country was very cool.
